East Suffolk Travellers' Association

PUTTING DOWN A MARKER
Story date: 30/11/2009

In sixteen month's time we shall have a new train operator in East Anglia, when the franchise of National Express expires.

ESTA's Chairman has therefore written to the Secretary of State for Transport, urging that the new franchisee should guarantee to provide an hourly Lowestoft - Ipswich service, using class 170 diesel trains with improved interchange facilities at Ipswich and at least two through services each way between Lowestoft and London.

We also repeat our request that withdrawal of any London - Lowestoft trains be made conditional on completion of a passing loop at Beccles and real improvements to interchange facilities at Ipswich, including the long-awaited passenger lift.

Our letter has been copied to five local MPs.
