Beccles is a historic market town on the navigable River Waveney, which is perhaps best viewed from the West end of the imposing St Michaels Church, with its unusual detached tower. Beccles and District Museum in nearby Ballygate (Tel 01502-715722) is housed in a fine old 17th century house and is open daily except Mondays April - October and on Bank Holiday Mondays. Exhibits include a wide range of historical, geographical and wildlife themes with "Discovery Boxes" for children.
