Halesworth is an expanding market town in the Blyth Valley, with a pedestrianised shopping street. In the station building and alongside unique movable platforms, the Museum has information about the railway and important residents including Sir William Hooker and his son Joseph, the first two Directors of Kew Gardens, as well as geographical, historical and archaeological displays. For opening times (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday) phone 01986-873030. An interesting Town Trail may also be followed.

Hourly buses leave Saxon Way for Norwich via Bungay - an interesting and historic market town by the River Waveney which makes a great curve to the north and protects the old town on two sides. The Castle ruins, Butter Cross and majestic tower of St Mary's Church give it further character. Service buses call at the station, meeting all weekday and some Sunday trains, and provide an easy way of reaching Southwold. The bus also serves Wenhaston with its famous Doom painting in the church and its five beautiful commons. The bus also serves Blythburgh with its imposing church, popular White Hart public house and attractive riverside walks.
