Leiston is a small town that grew in the 19th Century around Garretts' Engineering works. At the unique Long Shop museum you can see how Garretts developed from making hand tools in a forge to a world famous company producing steam engines, electric vehicles, diesel tractors, munitions, radio and radar equipment and plastics. Open daily from April to October, this museum has something for all ages (Tel 01728-832189) and the bus stops outside it.
